Klaas Bosch

  • Klaas introduces himself

At a birthday party, Klaas was recruited by the owner of the Harlinger toilet building for the Brown Fleet. We write 1994 and he decides to work as a “maat”for a year, as it is called. He stepped as a mate with Danny Munnikes on board the Vrouwe Geziena, a 20-meter tjalk. He did not have sailing experience but surfing at the Paterswoldse lake near Groningen. It was nog comfortable on this cozy tjalk, a decent hut for the sailor was not available. After this season he could join the Spes Mea, which was then owned by Jan van Berge. It was an instructive season and the winter that followed was used to get the large boat license. With this piece of paper he was contracted as a skipper on the “Onderneming”, a clipper of 28 meters. After having sailed here for 2 years, he returned to the Spes Mea. Jan van Berge had built a second ship and sailed there. In 1999 the Spes came for sale and Klaas decided to buy the ship together with Danny. This duo-ownership was stopped in 2003 due to health complaints from Danny. Klaas has  a son, Niek, together with Aukje and lives in Kimswerd. In 2012 Klaas only sailed in the early and late seasons a number of tours, as he now also has a career at shipping company Doeksen on the “Northern Netherlands”, in 2013/2014 back on the Spes Mea together with Derk-Jan Dijkstra, but from 2015 on he will focus on his other interests and activities again, which is why there is a hired skipper sailing all year round..
